When it comes to online marketing most people think about submitting web pages to search engines and sending e-mails in order to make people visit your website and to make them sign up with your business.

Building your network marketing business online requires much more than that. First of all - and this is very important! - You need to focus on the core of what network marketing is creating relationships.

Creating relationships does not mean sending a single e-mail to an e-mail lead or feeding e-mail addresses in an auto-responder that sends out a series of messages for you, it does not mean placing an online ad nor buying traffic or using services that create traffic to your website. I did not say that these online actions are wrong, but they do NOT create relationships.

In order to create relationships online you need to implement ONGOING actions, that makes other people that are online aware of you as a real and reliable person, and someone they can recognize after a while. And they need to become aware that you are a source of information that will help them for building their business and satisfying their needs and solve their problems.

The statistics show that it takes often five to ten times longer to create a relationship online than using the phone. Having said that, the Internet is a great source for prospects and new people you want to have in your downline, if you plan your actions accordingly.

The Credibility Factor

Being online makes you equal - for others you could be a 16 year old pretending to be a millionaire or you could be really the network-marketing expert that you are. People on average don't trust you, until you prove yourself trustworthy. Sometimes people even say if you are as successful as you say, why would you be online in a chat room like this. Just stating facts by sending someone a link or posting a link on a website does not create credibility.

The equality online on the other hand gives even a beginner a change to show credibility and consistency. Use the free articles on the public web pages to share your knowledge. People will acknowledge you, if you are visible not just for a quick advertising message, but for consistent support and your opinion. Show them that you care - and you will be surprised how many people will ask you for help in return!

Curiosity As The Key

The key for getting people's attention is curiosity. It is almost everything for being online. If you create an e-mail address, an online chat name or a website address, make sure that you choose a name that makes people think either what is this about or wow, this sounds like something that could benefit my business. Especially for online screen names its important that you create something that forces others to chat with you first.

This is one of my main strategies to reach people in person online. This tip works especially if you have a DSL connection and can stay basically online the whole time. But even if you have a dial up connection you can use this.

As soon as I get my e-mail leads and I verified if they are still interested in looking for a business I put their names into my buddy list in AOL, in Yahoo Messenger and ICQ Messenger - and if people are online I say a quick Hello! online, introduce myself and offer them to answer them any questions they have without pushing my business offer on them. If people are not online I always send an e-mail telling them that I am available online for business related chats and that I am happy to answer their questions in person and even offer to make online appointments. With this offer you stand out of the crowd.

TIP Being in online chat rooms like the Entrepreneur room in AOL or in Yahoo Career Chats can sometimes bring people to you asking you for help, if you have a attractive screen name and if you filled out your profile so people can explore who you are. DO NOT type web page links in chat rooms (especially not in AOL), because this can cause cancellation of your online name.

MLM Forums

A great place to create online relationships is to post your opinion, or even questions and share your experience online in MLM forums. It is very important, that you need to do this on a regular basis, so others see your name often enough to believe you, that you are not in that forum to advertise, but you are a real individual that is serious about network marketing. People will start asking for your opinions once they realize that you are for real!

Other Ways to Attract People to Your Website

Number One Call them on the Phone. Seriously. It most often takes offline methods to bring people online. If you do phone prospecting, always give your website and ask the other person for their e-mail address. If you have talked to them, they are more likely to take the time to read you information, because they already know that you are a real person.
